A children‘s birthday party in Serbia in 1993 is the setting for a film with unusually beautiful and simple image compositions. Milica Tomović tells this evening as a miniature of Serbian society after the disintegration of Yugoslavia.

The more alcohol and drugs the guests consume at the adult parallel party, the more they jab at the political biographies and transgressions with pointed undertones. Isn’t this punk, who raves about queer musicians and that the origin doesn‘t matter, afraid of the demise of the Serbian tradition? Interruptions are the structural principle of the film: they generate transitions as freedom: a power blackout offers the opportunity to kiss, to sleep with a stranger, an opening door disturbs a wonderfully realistic masturbation scene. Above all, the filmmakers display how relationship dynamics shift while the political world changes outside – and also about how to celebrate a lavish party.
