After her successful coming-of-age drama The Miseducation of Cameron Post (2018), the Iranian-American director and screenwriter DESIREE AKHAVAN returns – this time with a six-part TV series.
As the name suggests, Akhavan’s comedy The Bisexual deals with a topic that was rather modestly treated in the queer TV landscape – bisexuality. Akhavan personifies the protagonist in the series, Leia, who, after parting ways with her long-term girlfriend, embarks on a journey of self-discovery.
She moves into a shared apartment with a somewhat neurotic writer, who will accompany her in learning a life lesson or two. However, as sophisticated as the title of the series appears, Leila is far from it at first.
The Bisexual is a wonderfully humorous insight into the British dating world of an American, whose problems are not earth-shattering, but are nevertheless a delight to watch. Our insider tip.
