This year, for the first time, the QFFM is dedicating a focus to an artist. In this context, we do not only want to show a newly released film by an outstanding artist at the festival, but focus on the artistic oeuvre as a whole. We are pleased to present Jovana Reisinger as the first Artist in Focus!
The Munich-based filmmaker and writer playfully deals with naturalised gender roles in her short films, series as well as in her essays and columns. To do this, she uses the feminist and queer tradition of exaggeration and persiflage. She particularly likes to seek out such wonderfully charged institutions as the talk show (in the series „Men in Trouble“), the affair, the flirt, star culture or a decadent estate on surrounding Bavarian lakes (in „Die klaffende Wunde“). From here, one can celebrate artificiality (or suffer from the norms that it produces as an apparent by-product). This can only be done better in the Alps – a projection site of domestic ideas of nature whose absurdity is best endured in hyperfunctional outdoor clothing, for example in her film „Unterwegs im Namen der Kaiserin“. Shrill 2D animations in the style of the 2010s and exaggerated roles complete Reisinger‘s thwarting of an imagined naturalness and the simple matter-of-factness with which straighter bourgeois ideas of gender roles like to give themselves.
In addition to a programme of selected short films by Jovana Reisinger on the big screen, the Queer Nail Art exhibition at Habibi Kiosk will feature cinematic and literary works by the artist. We look forward to welcoming Jovana Reisinger at the opening of the exhibition at Habibi Kiosk on Wednesday, 11.10.
Jovana Reisinger is a writer, filmmaker, and visual artist. Her debut novel Still Halten was published by Verbrecher Verlag in 2017. In 2021, also published by Verbrecher Verlag, her second novel Spitzenreiterinnen was nominated for the Bavarian Book Prize 2021 and adapted for several theaters. In 2022, Korbinian Verlag published the essayistic novel Enjoy Schatz. The video work of her first institutional solo exhibition (Men in Trouble, Kunsthalle Osnabrück 2020-2021) has toured internationally since 2021. Her short films have screened at several festivals and been exhibited internationally.
