A gripping drama about friendship, love, and the longing for freedom
Isio fled Nigeria to live as a lesbian woman in the UK, as homosexuality is illegal in Nigeria. But, af- ter two years, when Isio is caught without papers, she is sent to a deportation center. She hopes that if she follows the rules, she will receive a fair asy- lum hearing, even though the other women living there quickly make it clear to her that this will not be the case. Isio shares a room with Farah, and soon they develop feelings for each other and consider how they can get out of there to live a dignified life as a lesbian couple.
In her delicate yet powerful cinematic debut, Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor draws on her own experience to tell the story of how difficult it is to obtain asylum as a homosexual person and migrant in a country like Great Britain. But the focus is on the community of women and their confidence in a life of freedom.
