Three generations of a Dutch family confront the essential questions of life: What makes life worth living? And how do I face death? “Idyllic” is a comedy-drama that treads the fine line between life and death, savoring every second of this dance with dark humor. The film confronts the absurdity of life and the pain associated with it, yet remains wonderfully life-affirming despite the harshness of its themes.

Following his feature film debut Goodbye Stranger (2023), Dutch filmmaker Aaron Rookus‘s “Idyllic” vignette-like portrayal of the intertwined lives of a dysfunctional family and their environment. As different as their individual life paths and obstacles may be, they all have to face the biggest problem of all: life.
