In 2700, the Year of the Toads, Asche is a burnedout city full of concrete deserts, urban highways, and rubble piles, in endless darkness, rain, and war. Amid the apocalyptic turmoil, three women: Spy, a comic book artist; Volly, a performance artist and sexobsessed pyromaniac; and Nun, an amoral alien with a taste for reptiles. It‘s a story of their obsessions and revenge, an anti-romantic plea for love in all its forms – and a work full of sex and violence, with a pulsating soundtrack. A cyberdyke film that stimulates body and mind alike.
With Flaming Ears, the directorial trio of Ursula Pürrer, Dietmar Schipek and Ashley Hans Scheirl created one of the most important Austrian avantgarde films of all time in 1991. Their queer future dystopia, originally shot on Super-8, can be seen at the QFFM in a newly restored 4K version.
