An immersive and emphatic debut film about complex relationships in transition, hope and despair, joy and cruelty.
Merit and Eva become increasingly estranged as old wounds reopen and something smolders beneath the surface, unnamed. Fears of the future and traces of violence relentlessly push into the present. The director also includes those affected by the disillusionment of the two women: the exhusband, the son, and his girlfriend. Conversations are held, but the words go unheard. The film portrays the sometimes unbridgeable gaps between lovers with unusual intensity.
Katharina Lüdin was born in Basel and studied film at HFBK Hamburg and UdK Berlin. Her short films have been shown at numerous festivals. Her debut film, „Of Living Without Illusion“ had its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in 2023 and has since been invited to numerous international film festivals, including the New Directors/New Films Festival at the MoMA in New York.
