Kein Wunder, in der Geschichte der Musikindustrie wurden Frauen und LGBTQIA+ Personen bisher selten berühmt. Der Dokumentarfilm versucht nun, genau das zu ändern. Alte Weggefährt* innen und bekannte Stars erzählen vom beeindruckenden Leben der Allee Willis. Die in den 1950er Jahren in Detroit geborene Songwriterin und Producerin hat Hits u.a. für Earth Wind and Fire, die Pointer Sisters, Pet Shop Boys oder auch die eingängige Titelmelodie der TV-Sitcom „Friends“ geschrieben. Der Film thematisiert aber auch Willis‘ innere Kämpfe mit Selbstakzeptanz und ihrem nicht-konformen Umgang mit Geschlechter- und Sexualitätsnormen. Mit diesem queeren, inspirierenden Biopic reisen wir in die bunte Welt der 1970/80er Jahre von Los Angeles.

„You don‘t know Allee Willis?“
No wonder, in the history of the music industry, women and LGBTIQIA+ people have rarely been famous. This documentary film attempts to change that. Old companions and well-known stars talk about the impressive life of Allee Willis. Born in Detroit in the 1950s, the songwriter and producer has written hits for Earth Wind and Fire, the Pointer Sisters, Pet Shop Boys and the catchy theme tune for the TV sitcom „Friends“, among others. However, the film also addresses Willis‘ inner struggles with self-acceptance and her non-conforming approach to gender and sexual norms. This queer, inspiring biopic takes us on a journey into the colourful world of 1970/ 80s Los Angeles.
