Mit diesen ermunternden Worten des afroamerikanischen Dichters Langston Hughes eröffnet Jyoti Mistry ihren Kurzfilm, der Bilder aus diversen Filmarchiven dekonstruiert, queert und zu einer flirrenden Montage verdichtet. Diesem optimistischen Auftakt folgend, erzählt das Kurzfilmprogramm Tales of Love and Loss vom Zunge-Verschlucken und Herzrasen, vom Sich-Verlieben und Abschied-Nehmen; von der unerwarteten Intimität bei einem misslungenen Sexdate; vom Geheimhalten einer aufkeimenden Liebe; davon, wie schwer es manchmal sein kann, Gefühle in Worte zu fassen. Und selbst wenn das Herz nach einer Trennung stehen zu bleiben scheint, lohnt es sich doch, den Blick nach vorne zu richten – und etwas Liebe zu wagen.

„Birthing is hard, and dying is mean – so get yourself a little loving in between.”
Jyoti Mistry opens her short film with these encouraging words by the African American poet Langston Hughes as she deconstructs and queers images from various film archives, condensing them into a shimmering montage. Following this optimistic opening, the short film program Tales Of Love And Loss explores swallowed tongues and racing hearts, falling in love and saying goodbye; the unexpected intimacy of an awkward sex date; the secrecy of a blossoming love; and how difficult it can sometimes be to put feelings into words. And even if your heart seems to stop after a separation, it‘s still worth looking ahead and finding a little loving in between.
