Collective and empowering musical reenactment of a queer prison narrative beyond stigmatization.
Yoseli ends up in a women‘s prison on suspicion of drug trafficking. From the very first day, it is clear she is not going through this experience alone; she is now part of a collective. A queer and communal reappraisal of loving and violent experiences emerges. Reas arranges these experiences into a non linear and visually fascinating cinematic construct that weaves gentle, entertaining, and empowering bonds between the performers, reworking their memories of love, friendship, creativity, and violence through dance and music.
The cis and trans performers mostly play themselves. Director Lola Arias‘ film is not only about the queer community but also exemplifies what queer creative collaboration can achieve. Reas is fun, moving, empowering, and demonstrates above all that we remember, love, and create best together.
