The port of Veracruz has always been the gateway to Mexico – a place of promise and frustration. Ramin (Arash Marandi), a young Iranian who crosses the Atlantic on board of a Turkish freighter, is one such traveler. On the run from a repressive regime, he dares a new beginning and lives in bittersweet exile in this ailing yet charming colonial city off the Gulf of Mexico. While hesitantly attempting to overcome cultural and language barriers, Ramin encounters harrowing circumstance but also warm, like-minded people who struggle with the same spirits of the past. Together they direct their longing towards an unclear future.

LAFITA – Latin American Film Days – Seven days full of stories

Buckle up, because LAFITA is taking you to Latin America. Seven feature flms, two documentaries, and two short flm blocks have been selected this year and will be shown at the Instituto Cervantes, the Gasteig, and the Werkstattkino from 26 November to 2 December. Latin America has much more to offer than Salsa, Samba, and SanterÌa. These flms will take you to Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, you will see traces of German architecture in Argentina. Accompany us on this journey through time and space. It‘s worth it!
