Ein packendes Drama um eine lesbische Spitzenfußballerin.
Schon im Kindesalter entdeckt Marinette ihre Leidenschaft für Fußball. In der französischen Kleinstadt Bar-sur-Aube der 80er und 90er Jahre ist es allerdings nur Jungs erlaubt, zu kicken. Da Marinettes Talent jedoch nicht unentdeckt bleibt, spielt sie zunächst in einer Jungenmannschaft, was ihrem alkoholabhängigen, gewalttätigen Vater (Alban Lenoir) gar nicht gefällt. Doch Marinette (Garance Marillier) bleibt dabei: Sie möchte Profifußballerin werden. Die Athletin kämpft sich durch zahlreiche dramatische und fordernde Erlebnisse, kommt als erste Französin in Amerika bei einem damals führenden US-Profiteam unter Vertrag, outet sich als homosexuell und setzt sich sowohl für die Rechte der Frauen im Profifußball als auch für sich und ihre Mutter ein und schreibt damit Sportgeschichte.
Ein im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes bewegendes Biopic der französischen Nationalspielerin Marinette Pichon. Marinette ist das erste Sport-Biopic mit weiblicher Regie (Virginie Verrier).

Gripping drama about a lesbian worldclass soccer player.
Marinette discovers her passion for soccer as a child. However, in the small French town of Bar-sur- Aube in the 80s and 90s, only boys are allowed to play football. As Marinette‘s talent does not go unnoticed, she initially plays on a boys‘ team, which her alcoholic, violent father (Alban Lenoir)
strongly disapproves of. But Marinette (Garance Marillier) stays determined: she wants to become a professional soccer player. The athlete fights her way through numerous dramatic and challenging experiences, becoming the first French woman to sign with a leading U.S. professional team. She comes out as gay and advocates for women‘s rights in professional soccer, as well as for herself and her mother, making sporting history in the process.
This biopic of French international Marinette Pichon is moving in both the literal and figurative sense. Marinette is the first sports biopic to be directed by a woman (Virginie Verrier).
