PREFACE – ANTON BIEBL

The fifth year in a row the QFFM | Queer Film Festival Munich is standing for the visibility and representation of diversity on the big screen. It has enriched Munich‘s cinema landscape with a further, very important field that cannot be ignored in a modern urban society – an increasingly important topic for me in all areas of cultural creation and life. I am therefore pleased that the QFFM is now also integrated into the Munich film landscape through Filmstadt München e.V.

The QFFM is a place where both cineastes and the LGBTIQ* community can come together. With their film selection the team questions and deconstructs stereotypes of all kinds and advocates for an intersectional view on media representations.

This year, they faced special challenges due to the Corona crisis. The QFFM team succeeded in being the first queer festival in Germany to also offer a digital version. This means that the entire community, as well as all interested parties beyond Munich, can now participate in
the programme without risk. With the City Kinos in the Sonnenstraße, the festival will again have a centre in an arthouse cinema that has just received an award from the city.

Since its inception, the QFFM has developed steadily and so in 2020 we can expect a diverse and exciting spectrum of the best queer films of the year as well as numerous inspiring discussions, panels and talks. Be a part of it!
