Around the world, the Stonewall protests are again being celebrated this year. But in many places, including Russia, the fight for LGBTIQ+ rights remains a constant struggle. Since 2007, the Side by Side LGBT Film Festival has been one of the main actors helping to break the silence on LGBTIQ+ issues and to promote the necessary dialogue within the Russian public. Bomb threats, slander, disruptive actions and the fear of the anti-homopropaganda law are commonplace.
In order for the festival to be able to take place in 2020, it urgently needs donations. On the one hand, this money will be used for necessary security measures, on the other hand, the association can also use it to secure itself legally. In order to support the valuable work of Side by Side, the organisation will benefit from all profits from our screenings of, Welcome to Chechnya.
